The Honors Festival is an opportunity for music students of current MAME members to audition for the Honors Recital. The Honors Festival Recital will feature selected students to perform in Morphy Recital Hall at the UW Madison School of Music on Sunday, February 2, 2020. Morphy Hall will be available at 1:00 for warm-ups. This is a competitive event adjudicated by a professional musician. The performance is free and open to the public.

Audition Requirements:

  1.  Repertoire must be memorized and not exceed 8 minutes.
  2. Repertoire must be at level 6 or above as shown in Magrath’s “Pianist’s Guide to Standard Performance and Teaching Literature.” Teachers may also use as repertoire guidelines the WSMA Solo and Ensemble lists for A and B repertoire, as well as Federation list for Medium Difficulty and above.
  3. Only students grade 5 through 12 will be critiqued and ranked according to accuracy, musicality, musicianship, and performance ability; a limited number of those who audition will be invited to perform at the Feb. 2 recital.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE AUDITION AND THE PERFORMANCE ARE ON THE SAME WEEKEND THIS YEAR

Participating teachers must be current MAME members who are available to volunteer on the day of adjudication for not less than two hours. Students may not request special accommodation.

Fees for the audition are $25 per student, whether playing one or two pieces. Entry forms, which will be published in the future, must be postmarked no later than January 10, 2020. Only paper entry forms will be accepted. Please include one check with entry forms.
