Honors Festival Auditions:

Deadline for entry: Monday, January 11, 2021
Auditions: Recorded on your choice of piano; video must be uploaded not later than Sunday, January 31, 2021

Honors Festival Recitals: TBA; will likely be an online recital compile from audition videos

The MAME Honors Festival is an opportunity for piano students to do a live, inperson audition to be recorded for possible inclusion in the Honors Festival Online Recital. These plans are subject to change due to the pandemic. Please refer to your December and January Nuances for more finalized information

Audition Requirements:

  1. Repertoire must be memorized and not exceed six (6) minutes (NEW!)
  2. Repertoire must be at level 6 or above as shown in Magrath’s Pianists’ Guide to Standard Performance and Teaching Literature. Teachers may also use as repertoire guidelines the WSMA Solo and Ensemble lists for A and B repertoire, as well as the Federation list for Medium Difficulty and above.

The festival is open to students currently in grades 5 through 12. Entrants have the option for critique only, or critique with consideration for selection for the Festival Recital. Entrants will receive a written critique and evaluation according to accuracy, musicality, and performance ability; a limited number of those who audition will be included in the Festival Recital.

Fees for the audition are $25 per student for MAME members, $40 for non-MAME members. Registrations and payment will be received online only.

Thank you for your patience this year as we have had to make modifications of the festival due to the pandemic. We expect to return to our normal festival next year.

Adjudicator: Colleen Adent, Portland, Oregon

Colleen’s formal musical training began at the age of four, after the discovery that she had perfect pitch and the ability to play by ear. Having earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Biola University, she has continued her studies with Harold Gray, Lina Baranov, and Cathy Kautsky. She advanced to the quarterfinals in the Van Cliburn amateur competition. Colleen performs as a soloist with orchestras and chamber groups world-wide. Her sensitive and thoroughgoing insights as a teacher promise to give our students extraordinary adjudications. See www.colleenadent.com for more information.
