Pre-College Masterclass: Cathy Kautsky

Cathy Kautsky offered a pre-college piano masterclass on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 5:00–7:30 pm. All MAME teachers were invited to enter a student for this excellent opportunity to learn from a master teacher.
This event was co-sponsored by MAME and Studio Share Madison, and was held at the Studio Share Madison, 5003 West University Ave location.
This masterclass was free and open to the public. Cathy performed first (at 5 pm); followed by a light refreshment, then the masterclass.

Catherine Kautsky (Cathy) is an active performer lauded by the New York Times as a pianist whose “music spoke directly to the listener, with neither obfuscation nor pretense.” She is chair of the keyboard department at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, and previously chaired the keyboard department at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, winning honors at both institutions for research, performance, and teaching. She has played and taught across the United States, as well in Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe and is known for the lively commentary that accompanies her music.
